Beck Cottage is one of the most idyllic cottages we have seen. Set in the beautiful village of Bishop Monkton, the cottage has been meticulously maintained by the current owners. Built in 1860, this stunning home is a local Property of Interest, originally being one of the cottages belonging to the Newby Hall Estate, and which still retains many of the original features, which have been lovingly restored. A particular feature is the large, sunny rear garden which has been landscaped to ensure there is a wealth of colour throughout the year, complete with a pretty Summer House (with power) and a large shed tucked away (also with power) and BBQ area.
Bishop Monkton is an affluent village which lies approx. 8 miles north of Harrogate, and the excellent road links give it easy access to Harrogate, Ripon and York. There are several highly regarded schools nearby, a local village pub and plenty of local amenities making it the perfect family home.
This delightful property is set back from the road and approached via a pretty front garden, with the accommodation comprising;
Hallway
Light and airy hallway with plenty of natural light, period radiator which has been refurbished to be a real feature, downstairs WC and original staircase leading to the first floor.
Reception Room
A warm and cosy family room with open fire, slate hearth and wood flooring, large windows overlooking beck running alongside the front.
Dining Room
A great room with plenty of space for a large dining table; features include a cast iron Victorian fireplace, and large window looking out to the rear garden.
Kitchen
Leading off the dining room is a well thought out kitchen (with access to the garden) with low level base units with quartz worksurfaces, Belfast sink, integrated dishwasher and, the main feature, an ESSE (www.esse.com) electric range oven with warming plate and induction hob, with all the style of an original range oven but with a modern way of cooking. Leading off here is the Pantry/Utility room which has retained the original shelving, and meat hooks, and has plenty of storage space, plus plumbing for a washing machine and dryer and houses the newly installed (within last 18 months) system gas boiler.
The original staircase leads to the spacious first floor landing with a second staircase leading to the top floor.
Master Bedroom
A large, sunny room with a Victorian open fireplace (fully lined) large windows overlooking the front of the property and furnished with pretty wooden shutters, and the original pitch pine flooring.
Bedroom Two
A double bedroom overlooking the pretty rear garden, ample space for a double bed, Yorkshire sliding window and original pitch pine flooring
Bathroom
A spacious family bathroom with large bath tub, rainfall shower head, foldable glass shower screen, traditional high flush WC and spacious airing cupboard/press.
Stairs leading to;
Bedroom Three
A great guest bedroom or teenagers bedroom, particularly well thought out to ensure every part of the space is well utilised, exposed brick feature wall, original beams, three VELUX windows, two wall mounted radiators and huge storage in the eaves with pull out hanging rail, and engineered oak flooring.
Rear Garden
A stunning rear garden which is incredibly private, and offers a truly tranquil space with a beautiful array of shrubs and flowers, small pond, pretty Summer House (with power) well positioned to really enjoy your surroundings, BBQ area, large shed (again with power), outside storage (formerly the original coal stores) and side access.
Front Garden
A pretty, mature garden which is accessed via a low standing gate with paving leading to the front door, with the beck running alongside the front of the house which really adds to the 'chocolate box' feel of the cottage and surrounding area.
The Owner says; Beck Cottage has been our home for 15 years and is a lovely place to live. The Mason's Pub is (child friendly) a great place to eat and the staff are really friendly too. The Village organises many events during the year, such as the Hog Roast Day and Monkton Music Festival. There are so many clubs to join, including, cricket, tennis, croquet and bowls, and new members are always welcome. We have a primary school, two churches, playing fields, two play parks, a village hall and a shop nearby. There are also several lovely walks around the village, and Fountains Abbey and Newby Hall are on the doorstep.
Barclay Watt Estates Says; We were delighted to be asked to sell this very special home. The village itself is utterly gorgeous and has a really tranquil, peaceful feel to it, yet has plenty to do for all ages. We fell in love with the cottage, it has a very 'happy' feel to it and given the owner is a former engineer, everything has been designed and maintained to the nth degree. The cottage is flooded with natural light and the garden is so sunny and inviting you could spend hours out there, or tucked away in the heated Summer House during the colder months. It is testament to the area and the house that the current owners have lived there for so long. We strongly recommend a viewing.
